Junior's interview with FIR E. Enjoy!
"Fable, now that you’ve reached your FIRE goal, what’s the most unexpected part of this lifestyle you’ve had to adjust to?"
The shortage of time. I am still young, but the shortage of time.
"If you could go back in time and give your younger self one piece of advice about the FIRE journey, what would it be?"
Maybe I would have taken a gap year before college, lived at home instead of on campus, saved more money, find a free hobbies on the weekend. There's writing, there's singing, there's dancing. There are unlimited free options out there.
"You’ve mastered the art of living lean. What’s one small indulgence that you still allow yourself every now and then?"
I like to give Christmas gifts. For myself though, I guess the most frequent would be eating out twice a week sometimes.
"How do you stay on top of the ever-changing landscape of finance and investing, especially now that you’re retired early?"
I don't do that. I stick to my plan. On most days, I could not tell you whether the S and P 500 finished up or down. I have other ways I prioritize my limited time.
"You’ve experienced early retirement—what’s one myth about FIRE that you’ve found to be completely untrue?"
That you will be stress free. Work problems were maybe 20% of my problems. Maybe.
"You’re all about financial independence, but what’s your biggest non-financial goal now that you’ve achieved your financial freedom?"
Becoming closer with family and maximizing time.
"If you could design your ideal day, from start to finish, what would it look like now that you’ve retired early?"
I would wake up at 7am. I would take my time. I would call family. I would spend a bit of the day cooking. I would not have a schedule. I would maybe check out a dog park. I would sing some. I would swim some. I would spend more time outside than inside enjoying the breeze.
"Does the idea of achieving even more financial independence, like becoming a millionaire, still drive you, or is it just about enjoying the present now?"
I would much rather have my time than $. The $ goals will come in time. I have to enjoy the present.
"What role does giving back to the community play in your life now that you have the time and financial freedom to make an impact?"
This answer will probably change over time. Taking care of animals is a low stress way to give back.
